Statement From Berkeley Police Association Regarding The Death Of George Floyd

Berkeley (CA) The Board of Directors of the Berkeley Police Association issued the following statement regarding the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis MN:

“The Association is shocked and demoralized by the videos we have seen of the death of George Floyd in the custody of Minneapolis police officers. The actions of the officers involved run counter to how we are trained and the standards to which we strive. Protecting life is our most sacred duty. We look forward to an honest and transparent criminal investigation of the incident. In all things we do, we demand justice.

We recognize that this incident will put increased strain on the relationship between law enforcement and the communities we serve. We won’t let the failures of others in our profession define all of us: we will serve our community in a way that earns its trust. We will continue to be the professional, ethical, and dedicated peace officers that you expect us to be and we expect of ourselves.

We offer Mr. Floyd’s family and the Minneapolis community our deepest sympathies during their time of mourning. “
